Photography has been Bandu Gunaratne’s passion since his school age and at present he is an outstanding senior Sri Lankan Photo Artist. Bandu read his ABC in Photography during the analogue era and fruitfully entered into Digital Photography. He has bagged plentiful Gold, Silver, Bronze and Ribbons in numerous International Photography Salons, apart from his countless local accolades accomplished. He has been honoured with credentials from many leading photography institutions home and abroad in consideration of his photo artistic talent. His contribution to the local photography domain has been versatile where he has productively rendered his services for government & semi government bodies, NGOs, universities, schools, private sector organizations, Photography publications, Photography clubs etc., in which his role played to fabricate N.V.Q. Level – 4 for ‘Photographer’ and his serving as a member of the State Advisory Board for Photography is remarkable. During the past sixteen years Gunaratne has served as an International Juror in twenty four International photo competitions. He has represented Sri Lanka in Photography conferences, workshops, gatherings and trade fairs held in India, Singapore, Germany, England, USA, Indonesia, Philippines, Morocco, Turkey, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Australia.
Presently Gunaratne is working as a visiting lecturer of Photography for seven consecutive years at the University of Moratuwa, as a lecturer at Sri Lanka College of Journalism and the National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka. He was conferred with prestigious ‘Kalabhushana’ once in lifetime award by the government of Sri Lanka as a tribute to his services rendered to the field of Photography.
Bandu Gunaratne is a keen Travel Photographer where he has captured activities of people, landscapes etc., visiting more than twenty five countries. He is the Country Leader for Crossing Bridges – Photography Community of nine Asian countries and Australia through the past thirteen years.
